Yay, I am back, updates on my projects...

Hi everyone!!  I am so sorry I have been MIA, like I said, I was sick.  I wan't in the right frame of mind to do anything :)

Here are some of the things I have been up to...

Ok, so I have been updating my other vlog, Elegant Sunshine a little, about my journey to get my home in order.

I also updated my vlog yesterday It is Chapter 5 of Breaking Dawn.  I love making these videos because I feel like they are not only funny, but they leave you wanting more and I love that, some people only watch the Breaking Dawn vids, and some watch all my vids, but not the Breaking Dawn ones.  It is totally a matter of opinion.  So if you want check it out, and if you like it please subscribe, comment and rate it.  I just love hearing from everyone :)

This week has been a bust! Time to kick it into gear again!

So, this week I have been pretty bad.  Not really, no worries, but bad in the way that I have let all my bad habits return!

Ok that is enough kicking myself.  Time to start being productive.  I will go running tomorrow, even if it is on the treadmill.  (It has been rainy).  There I have said it.

Now it has to happen.  In the morning I will run, and then I will have a good food day, and then I will take over the world ha ha ha ha...

Sorry, I am not supposed to mention that last goal to you guys!  *blushes*

Can you hear that??

Today has been a gloomy rainy day.  When I woke up it was raining, and then the beautiful sun came out and now, the wind has kicked up and, off in the distance, the very subtle tremble of thunder.

It is amazing, you can hear it coming.  Yet, looking out the window that sun is shining.

It is like life, you know something could happen but you continue to see sunshine.  Do you bask in this elegant sunshine here or do you brace for the thunder that is on the horizon?  It is a question that I ask myself often now.

See this blog is about growth and one thing I have yet to do is brace for the thunder.  I have been so content to nap on the cool grass and feel the warm sun on my face that I forgot that the thunder ever existed.  I forgot that as an adult there is always the slight chance of rain.

It isn't until you are standing in the pouring rain, soaking wet that you think to yourself, there was more I could have done.  So, now I must not only acknowledge what could be, I must embrace it, and then when the clouds roll in I can say, it is okay, I am ready.  I have my umbrella and a rain jacket.  Let it rain... I am ready : )

I am not sure where this knowledge will lead me on my personal path but I am hoping it will lead me to a more financially secure place, one where I don't have to burst into tears when I have to go to the ER one night, weighing my options and trying to talk myself out of needing to go.  I hope to be in the place where I can say... "This will be hard, but I can handle it."

That my friends is what the incoming thunder has said to me today.

I didn't workout again today : ( Although I do feel like it is going to be possible tomorrow, guess I will have to wait and see really.  As of this very moment, typing this I am going to, but I will decide for sure when I wake up.  I really need to get back out there!!

I woke up at 8:30 this morning so I missed my goal by 1/2 hour, but I got thrown off because my little brother needed a ride somewhere.  What can you do?  Just have to keep going.

Also I watched the documentary Food Inc.  and I don't plan on eating ever again so that solves the whole eating thing : (  Seriously though, you should so watch it!!  I am amazed by the stuff they talk about.  It is all stuff I know basically and I am still freaked out about it!!3

I also decided to put of Measurement Monday until the 1st, so I can have better returns.  I also don't want to obsess over the numbers you know?

It's Sunday!! New Food Goals and my Journal for 17 Oct 2010

It's Sunday!!

I have like 5 minutes to write this and post it before it is a day late!!

Ok so going through the the journals I am going to add the following goals to the two I already have.

First, No eating something 2 days in a row.  I have A LOT of repeats in the journal and that is not a good way to cover your nutrient bases!  However, I do always have leftovers as I am cooking for one here : (  So I have to be able to repeat sometimes, hence the 2 day rule.

Second, Eat a breakfast within two hours of waking up.  On days when I eat earlier, I tend to eat more meals.  When I wait 4 or 5 hours like I did yesterday and today, I eat way more junk, and only one or two huge meals!

So there are the new goals.  I will continue the new goals as well, obviously.

It was a bad day today.  I hung out with my dad all day and only ate one meal.  Pizza.  I also ate some snacks that were bad.  Tomorrow is another day, and Measurement Monday!  So that should be fun : )

Another day with no workout!  Still feeling a little sub par, but I think that a good night's sleep, and I will wake up ready to go!  Fingers crossed!  I feel better today then I did yesterday, but still a little... blah!

Major setback today!  The above shows a complete lack of planning and discipline.  I was bad, what can I say.  It is reminiscent of day one huh?  Well, on this journey I refuse to beat myself up, I will just wake up tomorrow and try to have a good day, not letting a few setbacks during week one throw me off!

NaNoWriMo Plot...

So I wanted to share my planned plot for my NaNoWriMo novel and get some feedback on it.

So I plan to call it: What Goes Around

Here is the basic plot synopsis...

If you could ruin the life of an ex, who broke your heart, would you?

5 years ago, Alexa's heart was broken into a million pieces by a colleague.  Josh, who broke of their engagement 3 weeks before the wedding, was Alexa's life.  She had to request a transfer and build a new life for herself in a new town.

Now 5 years later, Alexa likes to think that she is older and wiser.  She has a sweet boyfriend, has been promoted and is in a place in her life where she she feels happy.  That is until she finds out she is getting a new person in her division.  When she finds out it is Josh, all the old memories come back up.  At first she is nostalgic and nervous when he starts working there, but soon all the repressed anger she has starts to surface and the memories of their relationship lead her down a dark path.  One where she is determined to make him pay for what he did.

Alexa uses her position of power to slowly ruin not only his career but his life.  All while trying to maintain an outward appearance of a professional and friend.

So what do you think?  Does it sound like a book you would read?  It is supposed to be light read, sort of a dark comedy beachy read.  Thoughts?

Yep, I bailed.  I am really not feeling up to it, you know.  Sometimes you have to listen to your body and today was one of those days.  It wasn't laziness, I woke up on time, and everything.  I just didn't feel like it was a good idea today.  I kept telling myself, I can do it later, when I feel better but it never happened.  No worries, tomorrow is another day : )

So still not eating great, but have you noticed that I am eating at home and not out!  Go me! Hopefully that will be a trend that progresses because even if you arn't eating the healthiest meals, home cooked food is always a better choice then fast food.  So even though I still have a ways t go, I already feel like I am eating a little better.  More fruits and veggies and more water.  Working out everyday and eating better is a journey and I am trying to do well.  :)

Week 2 Day 2 of the Couch to 5k.  It was hard, I am having a hard time doing the last two intervals of the set.  I think I will extend the week.  I will do w2 for another week.  I don't think I should move on when I can't actually do the stuff I am supposed to be doing.  The run hurt, but it is a beautiful time of day to run and I am glad I have some time in the sun for that good old vitamin D!

Still not the best, but for two days in a row I have meet both of my goals for the week!  Yay go me!  I only ate a few snacks too, one was candy but the others were buts and string cheese!

Wednesdays are free days!!  Man I love Wednesdays!  I am uber-sore from the workout today so it isn't like a totally free day.  I guess that is something I will have to get used to on this journey.  It isn't so bad, at least I know I am actually working on it it I am sore right?

Snacks - lots, my dad's house is just a terrible environment for me food wise, they always have candies and junk food there.  I am going to have to work on taking snacks or avoiding the ones they have there.

Other thoughts
So the way I plan to change my eating is to set a goal each week, during that week, conquer whatever goal that is and never allow myself to go back.  I am writing them on a paper on my fridge so I can remember the habits I have already set.  This weeks goal is to eat more then 2 meals a day and eat at least one fruit or veggie a day.  Something I did actually accomplish today! Yesterday I had the veggies but still only had two meals.  Every Sunday I will look at the past weeks food journal and figure out something I need to change.  The goal for this week was very obvious after the first day!  I hope that by changing slowly and sticking to the changes, they will be more like habits and less like rules holding me back.  I really am going for lifestyle changes here in the food department and if I change to suddenly I will end up reverting as soon as I can.  Slow and steady are the ways I plan on winning or I guess losing.  So if you want to change your eating to, let me know your goal from your journal.  Or follow my goals.  I am going to post them in the side bar so you can see which habits I have embraced!

Workout the 600 - Yeah more like the 300, I could only complete half of the reps of each of the workouts.  It was painful.  I totally "bonked out" or ran out of energy during the wo.  I feel like I almost died.  These workouts are very hard and I am hoping that eventually I wont feel like crap after.  You know with more endurance and the like.  It took me 25 minutes to complete the 300 reps I did do : (  Oh well tomorrow is another day and any work I do is improving my health.  Ok off the the showers!  

Later...In my defense I have been feeling a little less then well lately.  I have a little cough and some major mucus issues.  Ew I know TMI.  However, it sort of happens every fall and I hate it!  It isn't sick exactly just sub-par!  So yeah working out and coughing don't exactly go hand in hand.  I have also been working to change my sleeping patterns.  I was going to be at 4ish and waking up well past 11 sometimes.  Not so great.  So I have been setting my alarm for 7:45.  It has been working as I fell asleep last night at 11ish, give or take. However, now I am a little tired.  I think I will allow myself a siesta.  So I will see you on the flip side!

So not a great day but I did meet my goal of eating at least on veggie!!  I went to the store and picked up a few things so tomorrow should go slightly better food wise and best of all it is Wednesday which is my total day of rest!!!  I am excited!

Sometimes we are brave and don't even know it!

So I am a frequenter of many design/homemaking blogs.  What can I say, I am a wannabe Martha Stewart.  So now that fall is here and the blogs are shifting there focus to Autumn and the holidays.  Many of them are mentioning Thanksgiving dinner.  Some speak of the meal and it's preparation like war, something that must be well though out and executed.  It makes me realize that I was brave and didn't know it.

See two years ago, I cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner.  I wanted us to have a beautiful, well planned dinner, as apposed to the pot-luck, semi disjointed Holiday dinners we have been having.  I believe it went wonderfully and if you ask my family I think they did too.

Why does this make me brave?  Well at the age of 24, having never cooked a turkey in my life, I agreed to cook one of the most important meals of the year.  I never hesitated in my belief that not only could I pull of this meal, but that it would be a wonderful meal.  I searched for some recipes, put together a list of what I wanted to cook, and what I needed to buy to pull them off.  I went to the craft store and made some cute napkin rings.  I made some salty, sweet nuts, put them in cute little boxes, tied a ribbon around them and made them into sweet little favors for the family.  I arranged the table, and made sure everyone knew what time my dinner would start.  I cooked things I have never cooked before, and they were all great.  I made appetizers, sides, and all the trimmings.

My point here is that I was fearless in taking on a task that some truly dread and have major anxiety over.  I was bold in thinking I could pull it off without having the prior knowledge that I really could.  I was brave and I didn't even know it.  I have no plans of stopping.  I cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner last year and if my family is willing, I will again this year and every year I can.  Not only do I love to cook the things we only eat once or twice a year, but I love seeing them eat it, and enjoy it.  I love the cheesy idea that I put my love into that meal and they get nourishment from it.  Like the sun does to plants.  I know it may seem weird, but it is truly how I feel.  Having the whole family at one table, eating the meal I spent days making is my idea of happiness. : )

Measurement Monday People! 11 Oct 2010

Week 2, Day 2 of Couch to 5k.  Felt horrible!!  Definately no runners high today, I felt every step and breath!  I know it is because I have gone a few weeks without running but still!  It hurt!

I am almost embarrassed to post this, because I realize it is very, very bad.  No lectures please.  First, we admit we have a problem, then we fix it.

So there are some very obvious problems with this way of eating, one absolutely no fruits or veggies.  Second, the length of time between meals gets me to a starving feeling that causes me to feel ravounous.  I think that my first goal is to eat several times a day instead of twice.  Also I think a simple goal of one serving of veggies or fruit wont kill me!

Blog everyday Till 2011!

Hey guys,

One of my big goals that I discussed in my first vlog is weight loss.  I usually have a hard time with motivation.  It is so much easier to go to McDonald's then cook myself a healthy meal.  It's too easy to say I will eat well tomorrow, or exercise later.  So in order to MAKE myself be good, I have decided to blog here every single day for the rest of the year about what I hope is my amazing weight loss journey.  So, here is how it is going to work.  Everyday I will post the workout I did that day, my food journal (it is scary!).  On what I have dubbed Measurement Monday, I will weigh and measure myself and post the results.

I would love for anyone who is interested to join me!  The way I am going to post my measurements is not in actual numbers.  I have weighed myself and measured myself and wrote it down I will report it on a + or - scale.  So right now my numbers are all at 0.  I will put losses in green and gains in red.  Here is hoping for no red!!  Nothing worse then gaining while trying to lose.  I will also be describing how I feel and hardships I face.

My goal is to use this public platform to keep my motivation and actually accomplish this goal!  If on January 1st I have only lost two pounds I will still consider it a win!.

Ok now the plan.  You may think it is to much but I am committing to two very different workouts.  One is running and one is a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts.  The reason is, the HIIT suggests active rest on the off days which include jogging.  So here is the planned schedule.

Monday: Jogging
Tuesday: Bodyrock
Wednesday: Complete off day
Thursday: Jogging
Saturday: Joggong
Sunday: Bodyrock

So what is Bodyrock?  What do I mean by jogging?  Well...
Bodyrock is an online fitness trainer that posts HIIT workouts.  They are super intense, short, require no equipment and she is obviously doing something right!  You can find them here:  I will doing the workouts, one day after she posts them so, for example on Tuesdays, I will do the HIIT workout she posts on Monday.  The workouts are usually only 12-20 minutes and they kick you butt in a good way.  If you are interested in doing these with me, you may want to look into the gymboss interval timer app that is available on iPhone, she uses on and it is vital... and free!

For jogging, I am going to follow Cool Running's Couch to 5k plan.  It is a plan that gets you running.  I am on week 2 right now.  It is only 3 times a week and although I hate it while I am doing it, after I feel great.  I know I will get better at jogging.  My sissy and I are planning on actually trying a 5K so that is something exciting to look forward to!!  You can find the plan here:  Couch to 5K

As far as eating, right now I am going to just try to make better choices and slowly get myself to eat better.  I am a big fan of Michael Pollen and his book Food Rules so I am going to try to follow those where I can.  Making the transition from Junk Food Junkie to healthy eater is going to be a long painful process and I can't promise that I will do well at all.  I can promise that I am going to give it my all.  So if you want to join me on this journey, please do, if not, Look back on 1/1/2011 and my social commentary blogs will return!

If you do, today is Measurement Monday and that means that you need to weigh yourself and measure yourself using this:

  • Bust: Measure around the chest right at the nipple line, but don't pull the tape too tight.
  • Chest: Measure just under your bust
  • Waist: Measure a half-inch above your belly button or at the smallest part of your waist
  • Hips: Place tape measure around the biggest part of your hips
  • Thighs: Measure around the biggest part of each thigh
  • Upper arm: Measure around the largest part of each arm above the elbow

Hello lovelies!

Ok, two points to make today and then I am off to watch some Telly!

Point one... According to YouTube, 80% of my viewers are female, so again, as in real life I am boy repellent!

Point two is about politics, feel free to skip it, I am feeling rant-y.

Point two... It is more of a question.  Should one fight for change, or should we trust the powers that be.  The question has been weighing heavily on my mind lately.  I miss the blissful ignorance and lack of interest I had not three months ago.  Only three months of interest and frankly I am exhausted, I am tired of keeping up to date on politics and where the country is going.  I am tired of hearing all the crazy things people do and say about their opinions.  I mean, it is an unwinable fight anyways, right?  No one side will ever admit defeat or will conquer all.  To many of my hours have been spent lately on politics and shock and awe at what people do or say.  So I have decided to disconnect.  A little less information I guess.  While less education is never the answer, I am afraid I have not the energy for a endless battle.  I love my country, and I love voting and all that but maybe a news fast is the only thing that can help me be sane again.  I don't know.  Maybe it is just because the election is coming.  I find that during election season, America is ugly.  We Politicians drag each other through the mud, people are all over the news talking about how the world is ending because of this side or that side.  Why must it get so nasty?  Why can't we be ADULTS and have a real, clean conversation about actual issues.  Yes, I have decided to disconnect and trust that everything will work itself out.  I will still vote and I will still look into each thing I vote for, as is the duty of every voter, but I will instead devote my time to finding interests that don't make me feel like politics in America makes me feel now.

I am really getting excited about NaNoWriMo!  I am already planning out my book and I am hoping it will all turn out well.  On the left of the blog is a badge that says how many words I have going at the moment.  It will say zero until November of course!  I already have characters and a basic story line planned out and I am going to do a little research before November 1st but I am feeling confident that I will at least have a solid start to the project!

It really came down to two different ideas, and I chose the more sentimental of the two because I would love to write a great romance someday!  The other idea was a YA book I have been wanting to write for years but it will have to take a back seat to this one this year.

Breaking Dawn Thursdays

So...
